Step 1

Unique Password

One of the most common mistakes people make, including myself is using the same password for multiple websites. This creates a single point of failure for your security meaning that if your password was leaked from one website they now have access to any website they trace back to you.

It is a challenging task to keep up with multiple passwords but a way to make it easier is to stick to a similar format and create variations for websites. For example if your name is John you could make a password for one site notJohn1234% and another notJohn4321$. Another alternative solution could be the use of a password manager.

Step 2

Two-Factor Authentication

What is Two-Factor Authentication? It is when you have to pass two different forms of identification or “Factors”. For example something you know, such as a password and something you have, such as a passcode sent to your phone or email.

To enable Multi-Factor on Instagram navigate to your Instagram settings after logging in.

Then select the security tab.

And next enable Two-Factor authentication.

Step 3

Privacy

What makes people want to target you? Your number of followers can make you a bigger target for hackers. That is because having a platform with a following is very valuable. Especially to people who want to reach a large number of people at one time. That is why big influencer pages are suffering from endless amounts of spam and self-advertising.

One of the best ways to secure your account is to make it private. This makes it so that a user can control who has access to their pages thus cutting it off the public. This is the best way to filter out spam and keep bots from creating fake pages with your images.

To enable private account navigate to your Instagram settings page.

Then select privacy, and enable private account.

If you successfully followed these steps then you just added another shield of protection to your Instagram account.
